Projects include: harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring, local forage fish (Long-Finned Smelt) population genetics, and freshwater bioassays. Furthermore, NWIC research supports the health of the Salish Sea’s waters and shorelines. The Salish Sea Research Center also raises awareness about environment issues through community outreach and STEM activities. Outreach is centered on marine science which connects with the research conducted at the lab.
