Laboratory of Non Destructive Testing, Corrosion and Welding
www.metalmat.ufrj.brThe LNDC originated from an initial proposal made in 2001 for Petrobras where the construction of a laboratory dedicated to the oil and gas area was tought. The main innovative feature of the proposal is to unite research areas of the Metallurgy Program, which until then acted independently. It was then suggested to join the Welding, Non Destructive Testing, Corrosion and Fracture Mechanics areas in one place to form a new research center where everyone could work together. So, a new challenge emerged and followed the opposite movement to the current paradigms that intend to divide the knowledge in diverse areas ever more pulverized. The idea took shape and finally, in 2005, the first contribution of funds for construction of the building was received and the works started. Our mission is to unite several areas of knowledge in just one place. Corrosion, non-destructive testing, welding and physical metallurgy converge in the main vocation of the LNDC, which is to act in an interdisciplinary way, proposing solutions for large structures in the oil and gas industry. We emphasize that the scientific services and research carried out at LNDC are multidisciplinary, involving specialized employees from all the above mentioned areas.
