Fifteen years ago in Buenos Aires, some of Argentina’s most accomplished dancers and musicians agreed to unite behind a shared vision – to challenge rigid conventions which had reduced tango to cliches and to re-discover its true essence, too often betrayed. The Otango Company was born and immediately infused a theatrical life into tango with its first show - "Otango". It experienced great success in many countries and, in Europe in particular, enjoyed standing ovations at renowned venues such as the Casino de Paris, the Coliseum in Lisbon, Cirque Royal in Brussels or the Cankarjev in Ljubljana. From its inception at the Biennial International Dance of Rome, the company’s production "Cincotango" has also received much acclaim and numerous awards due to its high artistic quality, as well as for their last creation, "Intimotango". Embodying an elevated form of tango now often imitated, the Otango Company is at the forefront of the new wave of Argentinian performance art.
