Holistic Engineering and Land Management, Inc.
www.helm.worldFounded in 2016, HELM is a civil engineering firm focusing on stormwater management and water resources – from sophisticated numeric modeling to development of real-word, practical, cost-effective solutions. HELM’s staff consists of full-time stormwater management professionals, registered professional engineers, and Certified Floodplain Managers. It is our belief that projects should be planned, designed, constructed, and maintained to cost effectively maximize functionality by integrating flood risk reduction, water conservation, and water quality. As a Small Business, HELM is a project-flexible firm formed by professionals having expertise in 1- and 2-dimensional hydrologic and hydraulic modeling; sediment transport, erosion, and scour analyses; FEMA flood hazard mapping, Risk MAP projects, and CLOMR/LOMR submittals; NRCS Watershed Plan/EAs; fluvial geomorphology; dam and levee analysis and failure risk mapping; area drainage and watercourse master planning; flood control facility design; Low Impact Development (LID) and Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI); emergency management and flood warning; channel stability and protection; and roadway drainage. Because stormwater should be treated as a resource and not a nuisance, HELM works to integrate stormwater management, conservation, and quality through the implementation of LID/GSI. LID/GSI are decentralized stormwater management practices that help reflect natural hydrologic processes by capturing and infiltrating stormwater as close to the point of rainfall as possible. HELM maintains a competitive edge in both 1-D and 2-D H&H analyses and sediment transport modeling by creatively leveraging state-of-the-art GIS techniques and automation (ESRI, QGIS, Python). HELM’s GIS capabilities allow for quick and accurate development of model inputs, as well as GIS-based compilation and presentation of modeling results. These capabilities save time, improve modeling accuracy, and provide enhanced QA/QC.
