For the past 29 years, DEC has been training community members across 19 of 36 states of Nigeria on governance issues, health enlightenment and services, entrepreneurial skills for women and providing micro finance credit facilities for sustainability. DEC was birth in 1987 from a social research conducted in order to determine the conditions of women in Bauchi state, by volunteers from CUSO (Canadian university Services Overseas) and ANFEA (Adult and Non Formal Education Association) in 1986. DEC still maintains that its activities and expansion is driven by community needs and request for intervention. Thus it adopts feedback and evaluation results as a guide to its mode of operations.
