COVEDOZA

www.covedoza.com

COVEDOZA is an Afro-Latina and Women-Owned brand built on feminism, positivism, and hard work, inspired by a Peace Corps service in rural Costa Rica. We sell feminist lifestyle products online such as apparel, mugs, laptop and phone accessories, stickers and home art designed by women artists who identify as Black, Indigenous and/or People of Color (BIPOC) that empower the women that buy them while generating passive income for the artist. According to the National Endowment for the Arts, “nearly half (45.8%) of visual artists in the United States are women; on average, they earn 74¢ for every dollar made by male artists.” For centuries, women have been involved in making art, whether as creators and innovators of new forms of artistic expression, patrons, collectors, sources of inspiration, or significant contributors as art historians and critics. Today, all women, specially women of color, remain dramatically underrepresented and undervalued in museums, galleries, auction houses, and media. They face challenges due to gender biases, from finding difficulty in training to selling their work and gaining recognition. COVEDOZA addresses the issue of women’s under-representation and pay inequality in the arts by educating the public about their work and their stories, increasing their exposure via our online platforms while addressing the customers’ need for inspirational products when life happens. Although we are a one-woman show, we are committed to financially empowering BIPOC female artists and makers from around the world by creating sustainable, short or long-term collaborations that will generate passive income for and awareness about the artist via our online platforms. Once a theme is agreed upon, the artist creates the designs and gives COVEDOZA the right to print it on lifestyle products that aim to empower the women that buy them. We calculate the artist’s earnings at the end of each quarter, which are then paid to the artist(s) electronically.
