The Kahm Clinic has a long history of using Metabolic Testing and Body Composition analysis to support its treatment of eating disorders and will continue that in the new PHP/IOP program we are now starting. This enables us to better educate eating disorder patients about the physiological consequences of their eating disorder and to develop more tailored care and nutrition planning for their individual circumstances. These devices help us to more accurately and quickly refeed our patients so that they are no longer malnourished. Although eating disorders are formally classified as mental illnesses, they are psychosomatic, of course, with grave bodily effects and changes caused by malnutrition. The fact of the matter is that therapy works far better when patients are properly fueled. The better we can deal with malnutrition, the better the therapeutic facets of treatment will work, and the more successful the IOP/PHP will be. With this combination of metabolic and body composition testing with traditional therapies, we believe our IOP/PHP will be more effective than the existing standard approaches that do not include this testing.
