The institute was created in 2006 as a joint initiative of Daimler AG and the Technische Universität Berlin. Working together with engineering groups at Daimler AG and faculty teams at the Technische Universität Berlin as well as selected Fraunhofer Institutes, DCAITI is on a charter to investigate both IT-driven product and process innovation in the automotive space. Whereas some of its projects conceive new driver assistance and warning systems, others focus on improving the software engineering process for embedded systems in the car. Quite a few of these efforts are part of larger national and pan-European research initiatives.
