MonViso Institute

The MonViso Institute (MVI) is a real-world laboratory (RWL) for research, education, entrepreneurship and living in sustainability transitions and systemic design, in a mountain and outdoor activity setting. The formerly abandoned borgata "Serre Lamboi" (means "terrace of the yellowish blossoming Laburnum trees") consists of six stone buildings on about one hectare partly forested land that are being transformed into a mountain university campus, including accommodation, office space, fabrication lab, outdoor wellness, permaculture gardens, and alike. The MVI is a place in transition, holistically designed for university student courses, professional trainings, company retreats, celebrations with the "extra", in phases as well for tourists. At the MVI you - experience pathways in the complex - learn to improvise - develop your creative potential - link science with practice - train mind, body, hands and soul - get inspired and motivated by systemic design solutions - create and build new social networks - learn and implement systemic design principles - discover tools to engage for sustainability. The evolving MVI campus is situated on 1500m asl on the Southern slopes above and as part of the municipality of Ostana, Valle Po, province Cuneo, Regione Piedmont, Italy - just two hours from the Mediterranean Sea. The stunning views cover the Monte Viso, with 3841m asl the highest peak of the Southern Alps, the Valle Po and the spring of the river Po, flowing all the way to Venice and the Adriatic see, and the border to France and the Queyras Parc.
