Student Nutrition programs at school with universal access play a major role in building a community of students that nurture the potential in each other with healthy food options for any hunger moment and offers an equal chance of success in the classroom for all children and youth. Teachers – Volunteers – Administrators see the impact in the classroom daily Increased focus and attention of students Supports better scores in math, reading and science Creates healthier eating habits and life-long well being Creates a sense of community at school (relationship building) Creates caring and nurturing environment Nutrition for Learning’s mission is to support overall child well-being and the ability to learn, by ensuring that every student has the opportunity to attend school well nourished. Nutrition for Learning seeks to provide community-based nutrition programs that are universally accessible to all students in the Region of Waterloo. Nutrition for Learning is a registered charitable organization first established in 1997 (#880648142RR0001) that supports student nutrition programs across Waterloo Region in all three school boards. (WRDSB -Waterloo Region District School Board, WCDSB -Waterloo Catholic District School Board and the French Language Public School Board) A small team of staff and a dedicated board of business and community leaders as well as a multitude of community and school volunteers supply the necessary support and guidance to ensure student nutrition programs can serve the needs of local students in Waterloo Region.
