The GIVE (Guaranteed Income Validation Effort) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to testing the impact of guaranteed income on the community of Gary, IN. It is part of the Mayors for a Guaranteed Income initiative and is Indiana’s first mayor-led guaranteed income demonstration. For the period of one year, 125 families in the city of Gary will receive a $500 gift from the GIVE program. The cash is completely unconditional, with no strings attached and no work requirements. Aiming to test a simple yet innovative solution to poverty and inequality, G.I.V.E. follows in the footsteps of the nation’s first mayor-led program, the Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration (SEED). SEED’s preliminary findings show how just $500 a month can provide the dignity that everyone deserves.
