Nanyang Venture
nanyangventureteam.wixsite.comEstablished in 2006, NTU’s Solar Car Racing Team comprised of final year Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) students who came together with an idea to build a solar car to compete in the World Solar Challenge race. As of today, they have been re-branded as Nanyang Venture. Innovation is the team’s middle name. They have continued to grow, bringing pride to NTU with an extensive list of prestigious accolades. What was initially an exclusive Final Year Project (FYP) for students of the Renaissance Engineering Program (REP) in 2006, has now become a passion project for students across all engineering tracks. While it’s common to see competing groups with 40 members, Nanyang Venture comprises of only 13 dedicated students. Despite this challenge, Nanyang Venture has continuously surpassed their previous milestones by challenging the limits of university-team-led car engineering groups. They achieved astounding engineering feats, such as drastically reducing the weight of their race cars from 123kg to 96kg. This has heightened its speed and advanced its fuel efficiency. In today’s technologically advanced world, Nanyang Venture is a marriage of the arts and science. They are currently in a joint partnership with students from the school of Art, Design and Media (ADM), where they elevate not just the functionalities of the race car, but also its overall aesthetics. Led by Professor Ng Heong Wah, the 13-men team continues the legacy of previous batches, striving to build and race eco-friendly cars to compete in tournaments all around the world.
