HPCA is the national charity supporting hospice care in South Africa. We champion and support the work of more than 110-member hospices/organisations, which provide hospice care across South Africa, so that they can deliver the highest quality of care to people with terminal or life limiting conditions and support to their respective families. The Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa (HPCA) is an Association incorporated under Section 21 of the Companies Act (Reg. No. 1986/001887/08). The hospice Association was founded in 1987 and is a membership organisation for South African hospices. HPCA has 7 regional association members from each province (Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu Natal, Free State, Northern Cape, North West Province) with the Association of Northern Hospices representing hospices in Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. During the last decade HPCA has established national and provincial Palliative Care development structures aimed specifically and purposefully at support and capacity building of member hospices and more recently of partner organisations in terms of the provision of quality palliative care.
