Pain Revolution

www.painrevolution.org

Pain Revolution is the brainchild of Professor Lorimer Moseley from the University of South Australia. Lorimer is one of the world’s most respected pain scientists. He's also a self confessed "middle aged man in Lycra", which has proven to be a great vehicle for bringing the message of evidence-based interventions for persisting pain to rural communities suffering under the burden of pain. Lorimer was joined on the innaugural 2017 ride by some of Australia’s most respected pain scientists, physicians, physiotherapists and GPs. They took to the saddle and cycled over 880kms between Melbourne and Adelaide, conducting educational outreach activities en route. The riders were also accompanied by the Brain Bus, which is an interactive science lab on wheels that allows the public to experience some of the fascinating science of pain and perception. The biggest aim of the ride is to fundraise and grow awareness for a Local Pain Educator Network in rural and regional areas. The riders raise money via sponsorship, and we’ve got a fantastic group of sponsors on board. Our big goal is to train and support local Expert Pain Coaches to Explain Pain within their communities. They will learn how to teach evidence-based self-management strategies, and work collaboratively local clinicians within an evidence-based prevention and rehabilitation approach. We’re working to create a framework for community based pain education that we can share with other communities, to combat the global burden of persisting pain.
