The Department of Economics equips students for careers in economics, studies in graduate school and to be contributors to a free and virtuous society. Grounded in the Austrian school of economic thought, the coursework explores how wealth is generated in the free market. Students look at the ways in which a society that works well is one in which a government defends liberty and private property. In the spirit of economists Ludwig Von Mises and Hans Sennholz, the department examines how freedom and wealth can be used by individuals and voluntary associations to care for the poor, foster the arts and promote human flourishing.
