Minoca is building an open source, POSIX-compatible, general purpose operating system from scratch. It is lean, modular, and power efficient. It supports almost 300 open source packages, including GCC, Ruby, Python, Node.js, and the X Windowing system. The OS runs on x86, x86-64, ARMv6, and ARMv7, so you can boot it on VMWare, VirtualBox, a PC, or a Raspberry Pi. Once booted, the full range of peripherals are there to get you going: graphics, sound, storage, networking, keyboard, mouse, USB, GPIO, SPI, I2C, and UART.
