Newood is responsible for the management of the Southwood (Huon) wood processing site near Judbury in southern Tasmania. The site is designed to improve efficiencies, utilisation and value of harvested plantation and native forest logs by co-locating a range of wood processing businesses close to the forest. A sawmill and a rotary peeled veneer mill are currently operating on the site. Planning approvals are current for a potential bio-fuel power plant to be built to utilise residues generated at the site. Newood is a subsidiary of Sustainable Timber Tasmania.
