VYX
www.vyxsurf.comThere is currently 269,000 tons of plastic in our oceans, about 46,000 pieces per square mile of ocean. Due to inadequate disposal and recycling of consumer goods, such plastics break up into micro-plastics that pose threats to oceanic and human life. Marine life ranging from zooplankton to sharks end up consuming this waste, which in turn is consumed by humans. As of 2019 it was estimated that humans ingest about 5 grams of micro plastics a week, which is about the equivalent of a credit card's worth of plastic. The dangers that such plastic pollution is imposing both on ocean and human life calls for urgent efforts to mitigate plastic pollution. Vyx's goal is to combat this pressing problem by collecting plastic waste at the source at manufacturing facilities, before it has the chance to be improperly disposed of and entered into our world’s natural ecosystems. This collected plastic waste is then melted down and recycled into surfboard fins by means of 3D printers. The product is designed to perform, with the bonus of helping protect our beloved ocean and planet from the dangers of plastic pollution. We have confidence that Vyx fins will be an encouraging step in tackling plastic pollution, one fin at a time.
