Colégio Naval

The need to prepare young people for the Navy, even before entering the Naval School, dates back to the 19th century. It was sought, then, to instill a taste for the sea and marine things, in addition to providing a solid intellectual, moral and military-naval training. For that, up to the Naval College of our days, many steps were taken. Thus, by Decree No. 4679, of January 17, 1871, an Externate was established at the Court's Navy Arsenal, in Rio de Janeiro, which consisted of a one-year course for the teaching of preparatory subjects for the course at the School of Marine. Then, by Law No. 2670, of October 20, the creation of the Naval College, the first high school military education in Brazil, was authorized by Decree No. 6440, of December 28, 1876, signed by Princess Isabel, then occupying the Regency of the Throne. The Standard of the Naval College was approved by Ordinance No. 1118, of July 11, 1984, by the then Minister of the Navy Admiral-de-Squad Alfredo Karam. It consists of a rectangular field of silver silk measuring 1.20 square meters, edged with a plait of blue and silver, topped with a silver spearhead, and garnished with two ribbons, blue and silver, fringed with gold, bearing the inscription " Colégio Naval", in gold, on one of them, both blue and silver rosette pendants. The silver of the Standard evokes the Navy in its classic metal, and the heraldic ensemble contained in it, the badge of the Naval College, refers to it. This is our Naval College that has reached maturity without getting old, because with each passing year and in each graduating class, this yellow boat, in the green of the anchored forest, renews itself, full of enthusiasm for welcoming beardless young people, who in the short term they will become Navy Officers and will be the pride of the Nation.
