THINK LIKE A PONY CIC
www.thinklikeapony.co.ukThink Like a Pony is a natural horsemanship approach with great therapeutic and educational benefit for all children. Through our not-for-profit organisation based in Leeds we focus our work on children with mental health difficulties and special educational needs. "I have seen Think Like a Pony change the lives of some of the hardest to reach children in our community. These are children who are at high risk of self-harm, suicide, depression and chronic anxiety.” - Annie Mandelstam, Registered Child Clinical Psychologist. Young people are referred to us when no other form of therapy is having an impact. Without support these children are at risk of chronic mental health problems that can lead to isolation, self-harm, depression and even suicide. Through learning to build a relationship with a pony children learn strategies that empower them to take control of their physical, mental and emotional state. This in turn helps them to build stronger relationships, re-engage with learning and see a future for themselves. We also run an extremely successful riding school for families who are looking for a more educationally holistic approach to learning to ride. Since the Think Like a Pony series of workbooks was published in 2009, We have become leaders in the field of equine therapy, pony training and teaching children to ride. Reaching around 160 children each week and with over 80 children on our waiting list, we have now far exceeded our current base. We are fundraising to build a flagship centre where we can expand our work to support more young people and families and can showcase our unique approach to teaching children horsemanship.
