Headway Leicester is the only provision of its kind locally and the only charity supporting individuals with brain injuries. Brain injury can affect anyone at any time of their lives and is often the result of a sudden catastrophic incident; for example, road traffic collision, stroke, assault and Cardiac Arrest. Who do we support? Individuals under the age of 18 living in our area who have sustained and acquired or traumatic brain injury. Acquired brain injury (ABI): Not present at birth, causes of an ABI can include a Stroke, Aneurysm, Tumour, Infection, Hemorrhage or AV Malformation. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): May be the result of an assault, fall, road traffic collision, or any force or trauma to the head. Unlike most other injuries, a brain injury doesn't simply heal in time and the majority of our service users who sustain a moderate or severe brain injury will never fully recover to be the person they once were and live the life they once lived. But with the right help, at the right time, there can be life after brain injury. Referral Process Anyone can make a referral to Headway. A referral is quick and simple and can be done via the telephone. We will check that the consent has been obtained before accepting a new referral. Support at our Day Centre and Outreach Our day service is operated in Leicester City but is available to all residents. across the County. The day service offers a safe and supportive place at a time when many individuals have lost their confidence. We provide a range of activities aimed at rebuilding lost skills and maximizing independence. Our Outreach team will support you in your local community to find new opportunities increase your independence and reduce social isolation.
