BUSINESS@SCHOOL - A BCG INITIATIVE

www.businessatschool.de

What is business@school? How does business work? And why is business education already important in high school? Developed together with teachers and launched with two German schools in 1998, business@school has had 28,000 participants so far. Each year, the educational initiative of Boston Consulting Group gives 1,000 students the opportunity to experience business firsthand over the course of 10 months and acquire key skills for their future working life. Over 70 schools in Germany, Austria, Albania, Italy, and Switzerland participate in business@school each year. Over three phases, students try their hand at business: First by analyzing a large and then a small company, and then by developing their own business idea, including a business plan. At the end of each phase, student teams present their results to audiences at competitions where judges select the best business idea—in the third phase, at events on the regional and European level. Volunteers from over 20 partner companies provide local practical support. Participants thus benefit from the knowledge and experience of business experts, who meet regularly with students and also communicate with them by telephone and e-mail. Their role is not that of a teacher, but a coach. We are continuously developing business@school further in close cooperation with teachers and coaches. The business initiative responds to evolving learning and living environments. With our video competition "b@s videochallenge", we have created an additional offering aimed at students ages 14 and up at all types of schools, providing students with digital skills.
