Jackson State Community College (JSCC) was established as the first community college in West Tennessee in 1967. With almost 5,000 students, JSCC has one of the largest enrollments of any college in Jackson. JSCC serves a 14-county area with satellite campuses in Jackson, Humboldt, Lexington, and Savannah. The college has agreements with the Tennessee Technology Centers (TTC) to offer classes at their facilities in Paris, McKenzie and the Brownsville extension of the TTC Whiteville. "Jackson State is proud to be an open-door institution which means that our doors are open to anyone regardless of grades or test scores. Anyone who wants to go to college can do so here at Jackson State," said Dr. Bruce Blanding, president of Jackson State. "We have programs that are challenging enough for honors students, but we also offer developmental classes and tutoring services for students who need extra help. We provide education to our students at the level they need." The number of Jackson State graduates with associate degrees is approximately 12,000. A high percentage of these graduates will stay in the 14-county service area of the college for employment. Based on their increased earnings, these graduates will generate an additional $7.5 billion in economic impact on the local economy over a 25-year period due to the education and training received at Jackson State.
