Rui Osório de Castro Foundation is created in March 2009 and recognized as a Private Institution of Social Solidarity and Public Utility in June 2010, with the main objective to support and protect children with cancer as well as promote their physical well-being and emotional. Concentrating its operations in the information and scientific areas, the Foundation has defined as main projects: promoting an online information portal on pediatric oncology (PIPOP), editing publications on the issue and contributing to the advancement of scientific research in this area. As a complement, the Foundation also develops other actions, including fun activities with the children and their families, fundraising events and specific campaigns. The Foundation is created by Maria Karla Osorio de Castro and his sons, Filipe and Catarina, in memory and honor of Rui de Castro Osório, Husband and Father, who passed away on November 1 2006 due to cancer.
