The Christensen Fund

www.christensenfund.org

The Christensen Fund is a private foundation which aims to buttress the efforts of people and institutions who believe in a biodiverse world infused with artistic expression, and works to secure ways of life and landscapes that are beautiful, bountiful and resilient. We focus on backing the efforts of locally-recognized communitycustodians, and their alliances with scholars, artists, advocates and others. We also fund international efforts to build global understanding of the issues around biocultural diversity. These are challenging goals, so we seek out imaginative, thoughtful and occasionally odd partners to learn with. Most of the planet’s remaining biocultural diversity is concentrated in the lands and communities of the world’s Indigenous Peoples. The Christensen Fund backs the efforts of these communities as they pursue their own development paths, valuing their heritage while working to adapt to new opportunities and threats. We provide grants and practical support to buttress the work of traditional stewards and enhance cultural movements, turning the tide on global homogenization. We work through place-based investments in a small number of regions chosen for their exceptional biocultural diversity. These currently are in particular landscapes and seascapes in: Southwest Ethiopia and Northern Kenya;Kyrgyzstan,Tajikistan and northeast Turkey; Northwest Mexico and U.S. Southwest; Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea; and Northern Australia.
