Generation Hong Kong
www.generation.orgGeneration is a global non-profit youth employment organization founded by McKinsey & Company. It was born from a study that looked at 150 employment programs in 25 countries and surveyed 17,000+ employers, students, and education providers, identifying gaps in existing offerings and the most effective approaches to fill them. Generation encompasses a seven-step approach, with a 4-12-week boot camp-style training that integrates technical, behavioral, and mindset skills. By focusing on repeated practice of the most important activities for a role - what Generation calls “breakdown moments” - the program prepares graduates to perform well from day one on the job. In Hong Kong, Generation seeks to address the two-sided talent mismatch, supporting youth aged 18-29 with no university degree. We specifically seek to bridge this talent mismatch and challenge the societal perception that grades and level of education as the major screening factor for hiring entry level employees. Generation Hong Kong aims to: • Coach Hong Kong’s next generation to equip them with the skills to shape their own future. There is no such thing as the wrong choice; Generation helps young people to switch careers without a high commitment in time and cost when they are still carving out their unique path. • Train young people through scenario-based training and repeated practice so that they can hit the ground running from day one on the job. Generation works closely with employers from various sectors to develop curriculum that is relevant for both the geography and the industry. • Challenge the societal perception that grades and education level should be the major screening factors in hiring entry-level employees. We have discovered, and are continuously on the lookout for, like-minded employers to join us in addressing this challenge to relax the academic criteria and identify innovative approaches to hire the talent they want and need.
