DAISY FARRIS DANCE COLLECTIVE (DFDC) is a dance theatre company creating original work that holds collaborations at its heart. Our most recent work is based on this historical story of The Princess Alice disaster. The Princess Alice was a Victorian paddle steamer running day cruises from London to Sheerness. One evening, as she returned to London, The Princess Alice collided with another much larger vessel causing her to sink in the River Thames. Nearly 700 passengers lost their lives and the local community of Woolwich found themselves thrust into the heart of one of Britain's most tragic peacetime disasters. Our most recent project explored how we can reimagine this story through dance and physical theatre. DFDC ran a project for families and another for young people to capture how the local community respond to the story. Performances, involving both the professional dancers and participants from the local community, took place at Greenwich Dance, the National Maritime Museum and Tall Ships Festival in Woolwich. The Princess Alice project is now in the development stages. Prior projects/ commissions include: - 'I'm Laughing At Clouds' (2015-16): Commissioned by internationally renowned public artist, Michael Pinsky. Supported by Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. A live performance fusing dance and interactive technology. - 'She's Like A Forest Fire...Unstoppable' (2014-15): Commissioned by Medway Council as part of the IN-SITE project- a regeneration project taking place along the Rochester Riverside. A dance film created in collaboration with visual artist, Nicola Flower. Previous works: - 'Learning to see' (2014)- performed at: Spun Through Shadows, Swallowsfeet Festival, Brighton Dance Network scratch night. - 'Silence the song in them...' (2013)- performed at: Resolution!14, Footprint Dance Festival, Accidental Festival at The Roundhouse, Swallowsfeet Festival and Big Dance 2014 in Chatham.
