Traditional investment banks are focused on helping companies negotiate with acquirers post term sheet or to help formally shop a company to potential buyers. They are professional negotiators, not deal makers. What we do on the other hand is work at the product or business level. We help find the right product and/or business fit with a potential acquirer and then help navigate the organization and win over the appropriate stakeholders to make the deal happen. In Silicon Valley there are basically two ways of creating value; financial and strategic. Financial value is the stuff of business school and stock markets. It's about revenue, earnings, financial models and management theory. Strategic value, on the other hand has little to do with any of those things and almost everything to do with how a companies product and/or market position help or hinder another company's (usually a bigger one's) ability to be successful. This distinction is why a company with 5 people and no revenue can sell for a billion dollars while a company with 500 people and $100 million in revenue sells for a fraction of that. While the circumstances of each project vary, the underlying work we do remains the same. Using a repeatable, process driven framework, we help identify, connect with and win over the key stakeholders necessary for your company's success by understanding what the incentives and risks are for those stakeholders within that particular organization.
