Stuyvesant Study Society
www.stuystudysociety.orgThe Stuyvesant Study Society’s purpose is to provide academic support to a diverse demographic of historically underserved students across New York City, free of cost. Stuyvesant students have earned a reputation for excellence in academics. We are grateful for the opportunities we have received. We in the Stuyvesant Study Society believe that we have an obligation to give back to the broader NYC community for the benefit of others. We connect Stuyvesant students with nonprofit organizations and schools across the city in an effort to make a difference at the elementary and middle school level. We’re committed to helping to bridge the education gap that exists city-wide, one student and one tutor at a time. Although we recognize that we can only play a modest role in bridging that gap, nonetheless, we feel that, as Stuyvesant students who have had access to an exceptional education, we should pay it forward. Our tutors, rather than being calculators for our students’ homework problems, strive to engage in productive discussions that promote a focus on learning, not completion. At the end of the day we’re a small organization, but we believe that, if we can help only a few schools or students, we can make a contribution to the lives of the members of our community with whom we have the privilege of engaging.
