O.G. Reading Specialists is committed to providing effective reading and spelling remediation to struggling readers as well as training and ongoing support to educators. Student Programs—pre-K through adult: Individualized Orton Gillingham reading and spelling intervention provided by: • Staff Specialists • Reading Specialists-in-Training Educator Programs: • Seminars for trained OG practitioners • OG training • Sonday System training for anyone with or without prior OG training Orton Gillingham is an instructional approach intended primarily for use with students who have difficulty with reading, spelling, and writing. It is most properly understood and practiced as an approach. In the hands of a well-trained and seasoned instructor, it is a powerful tool of exceptional breadth, depth, and flexibility. The Orton Gillingham approach is most often associated with a one-on-one teacher-student instructional model. Its use in small group instruction is not uncommon. Successful adaptation of the approach has demonstrated its value for use in the classroom. Reading, spelling, and writing difficulties are the dominant focus of the approach. The essential content of the curriculum and instructional practices that characterize the Orton Gillingham approach are mainly derived from two sources: first from a body of knowledge and practice, and second from scientific evidence about how people with dyslexia learn to read and write.
