Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) causes 1.7 million deaths globally per year. AKI is a frequent clinical event occurring in up to 18% of all hospital patients. It is characterized by a rapid deterioration of renal function to varying degrees, and associated with an up to 10-fold higher risk of death. In addition, patients with AKI have a significantly higher risk of developing or worsening a chronic kidney disease. As of today, an early detection tool for AKI is not available. Nephrolyx aims to close this early detection gap with an easy-to-use tool for rapid and precise kidney function measurement.
