Founded in 1925 as an organization dedicated to aiding Jewish women trying to survive in pre-state Israel, NA'AMAT USA is celebrating 90 years of dedicated service to the women, children and families of Israel this year! Identifying strongly with the trailblazing immigrant women of Palestine, the American women called their organization Pioneer Women. In the years that followed, the organization grew into a national movement and the largest women's organization in Israel. In the beginning, the organization provided vocational training for women working on collective farms and advocated to protect their rights. Soon after, members raised funds to build nursery schools for the children of working mothers. As NA'AMAT in Israel, expanded into a huge social service network, NA'AMAT USA helped its sister organization build community centers, women's clubs, legal aid bureaus, provide services to help new immigrants and promote cooperation between kibbutzim, moshavim and Arab villages. Today, NA'AMAT Israel provides day care for over 17,000 preschoolers, runs 20 technological high schools and 2 youth villages for troubled teenagers, provides legal aid for women, maintains women's rights centers, runs centers for the prevention and treatment of domestic violence and a shelter for battered women, runs community centers throughout the country, gives scholarships for women working toward college and post-graduate degrees and advocates for women's rights in the Knesset and the courts.
