Nebraska Leadership Seminar, Inc.
www.nebraskaleadership.orgOur Mission Statement: Nebraska Leadership Seminar (NLS) promotes an atmosphere of personal discovery, supports ongoing development of leadership skills, and advocates initiative towards positive social change through educational programs for Nebraska's young leaders. NLS was founded in 1978 and incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in 1983. From its inception the goal of NLS has been to provide future Nebraska leaders with an opportunity to identify and develop their leadership skills by participating in a four-day residential conference environment. NLS targets Nebraska high school students between their sophomore and junior year. All Nebraska high schools have the opportunity to nominate delegates to attend NLS. Students receiving this honor are exposed to interactive team building activities, prominent Nebraska business leaders, current events discussions, and community service projects aiding them in the discovery, development, and application of their leadership skills. Delegates are encouraged and supported as they voice their personal perspectives while learning to appreciate and respect opinions differing from their own. Peer interaction promotes bonds of friendship with other student leaders from across the state. Since 2001, NLS has partnered with the Gallup Organization offering the delegates the opportunity to participate in the Clifton's StrengthsFinder Assessment. NLS, from the Board of Directors, Planning Committee, Alumni Association, and Seminar staff, is run entirely by Nebraska volunteers. The passion demonstrated by these individuals in providing future Nebraska leaders with the NLS experience has made a difference to over 6,000 students from the 300+ school districts across the state. NLS is a program that is recognized by higher education institutions and has been instrumental in securing scholarships for a number of NLS alumni.
