MeteoGRID is a private firm based in Madrid, Spain, providing services and products on applied meteorology and climatology. MeteoGRID has developed a meteorological forecast system (SIGYM-3) with unique characteristics, suitable for forest fire prevention and fire fighting operations. Currently MeteoGRID provides meteorological operational services in Spain to the Regional Governments of Madrid, Andalusia, Balearic Islands, Navarra and developed a specific forest fire risk information system (SIMIF) for the Ministry of Environment of Spain. MeteoGRID policy includes transfer of technology and research results, collaborating with some of the most relevant research entities and universities. Particularly its personnel have participated in several international projects funded by European Programmes on climate change, risk management and information systems. MeteoGRID has a specific Department of Forest Fires which embraces consultancy activity, on-demand tailored assessment in forest fire campaigns, design and development of forest fire prevention and defence plans, studies on wildland-urban interface planning and defence among others. MeteoGRID also provides design and development of ad-hoc information systems and integration of specific solutions to local, regional and national Administrations for Civil Protection and Forest Fire Defence services, for different GIS platforms and legacy systems, under the premises of inter-operability and use of standards such as OGC
