Family Voices Colorado
www.familyvoicesco.orgFamily Voices Colorado (FVC) strives to improve access to and quality of health care for children and youth with special health care needs. As a state affiliate of the national, grassroots Family Voices network, FVC works with families to expand the opportunities available to them and informs, empowers, and fortifies parents so that they can navigate the complex level of care required for their children to live their lives to the fullest. There are 225,000 children with special health care needs in Colorado - that's enough to fill the Broncos' field at Mile High Stadium three times over. Colorado's health care systems - both public and private - are some of the most under-funded and complex in the nation. So the care you might expect to be available to children often doesn't exist or is too expensive or difficult for families to access. By establishing partnerships with providers and community programs, Family Voices helps families and their health care providers navigate the myriad of cumbersome and confusing systems they need to access to get children with special health care needs the medical care they require. Many of our staff members are parents of children with special needs, and because we speak from experience, when we step up to advocate on behalf of Colorado's children with complex health care needs, we command tremendous respect from legislators as well as providers. We truly are the voice for Colorado's families of children with special health care needs.
