Urban Science Family
www.urbsci.comURBAN SCIENCE is a family of hip-hop and soul live bands based out of Montreal. Using an improvisation framework developed by band leader Vincent Stephen-Ong, the members of the group use musical cues and hand signals to push the spontaneous composition into new directions, all the while blending it all in seamlessly with original material. Urban Science is composed of MCs, vocalists, and instrumentalists culled from the top bands in town. #LECYPHER is a weekly hip-hop & soul jam session, going down every Thursday at Bleury Bar à Vinyle and hosted by Urban Science. You’ll experience hip-hop classics, reinvented in the moment, instrumental virtuosity, dancefloors on fire, and always a great party atmosphere. During the jam, emerging artists and established veterans share the stage and create unforgettable moments. Additional, there are opening acts every night, some of the city’s best DJs on the decks, and even great food to eat. Named the “#2 Best Recurring Event 2015” by Camuz, “#5 Best Hip-Hop Act 2015” by CultMTL, and listed amongst the “Top 5 Rising Stars of the Montreal Music Scene” by TheCultureTrip, Urban Science has opened the first 3 nights of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal in 2015 and closed the last 3 nights in 2016, accompanied Illa J, and performed at various festivals. URBAN SCIENCE BRASS BAND is the world’s first hip-hop brass band, re-inventing hip-hop classics with the intensity and fire of a guerilla street performance. Imagine a New Orleans-style brass band - trumpets, saxophones, trombones, sousaphones, tubas - with a repertoire spanning Dr. Dre through Kendrick Lamar - complete with MCs on megaphones and marching band drummers. They are the hosts of the first ever MONTREAL HIP-HOP PARADE, bringing together this core concept with b-boys & b-girls, and a convoy representing the totality of the Montreal hip-hop scene, from MCs and musical groups to beatmakers, DJs, graffiti crews, radio shows and many more.
