The Bach Choir
www.thebachchoir.org.ukFounded in 1876, The Bach Choir is recognised as one of the world’s leading choruses, building upon a tradition that combines musical excellence with creativity and innovation. Our mission is to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds with the magnificence and emotional power of choral music. From the first performance in Britain of Bach’s Mass in B minor to the soundtrack for Ridley Scott’s 2012 epic Prometheus, our musical heritage is as rich as it is diverse. Directed by David Hill, one of the country’s most eminent conductors, we regularly perform and record across London and the UK in prestigious venues, from the Royal Festival Hall to Abbey Road Studios. Singing together and sharing diverse musical experiences, has a unique power to inspire and connect humans - improving our health, happiness and social inclusion. Not only does that benefit our members and audiences, but also the children and other participants in our community engagement programmes. We have been working with schools in East and North London for over 10 years, nurturing young talent, and inspiring them to sing out with confidence. We also regularly commission music from new and young composers – the Bachs of the future. We are an entirely self-financing not-for-profit organisation. Even with our very lean business model, with only a handful of paid staff and the majority of tasks undertaken by volunteers from the singing membership, we need to raise at least £100,000 every year to allow us to keep bringing our choral performances to the widest range of people, to keep commissioning work from fresh new voices and to spark the joy of singing in young and old alike. If you are passionate about music, and its power to connect and inspire people, please get in touch at [email protected] to see how we can collaborate.
