NIOST is SIBUR's corporate chemical R&D centre. The centre includes dedicated laboratories for a number of fields, including petrochemical synthesis, heterogeneous catalysis, synthesis of plastics, polymeric composite materials, and elastomer synthesis and modification. The organisation’s production sites operate the latest laboratory and analytical equipment from the world's leading manufacturers. The pilot facilities create scaled-down models of technological processes currently under development. NIOST's Test Laboratorial Centre, which includes the Laboratory for Physical and Chemical Research Methods and the Physical Testing Department, was certified in the Nanocertifica system of RUSNANO State Corporation and in the Accreditation System for Analytical Laboratories (SAAL). NIOST is the main R&D hub of SIBUR Holding. It has completed a number of programmes in collaboration with other research centres of Russia, such as Lomonosov Moscow State University; A. V. Topchiev Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Boreskov Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences; United Research and Development Centre and National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University. The main science and research fields at NIOST include: obtaining new monomers and processing additives (modifiers, plasticisers, compatibilisers, stabilisers, and antioxidants); polymerising and obtaining popular petrochemical products; developing new composite materials; identification and quality control of polymer compounds; obtaining highly efficient catalysts of various modifications for the production of polymers and monomers. Every year, NIOST undertakes over 30 projects, including those focused on the development of new products and processes in plastics and rubbers: compounds, polymerisation catalysts and recycling mechanisms to utilise waste generated across SIBUR's facilities. The CEO of NIOST is Yuri Kazakov.
