Applicants must be at least 16 years of age (18 years old to obtain NREMT), must be able to work in the US, must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident, must possess a high school diploma or GED, must be able to pass a federal and state background check, and must be able to pass a pre-placement physical screening. No prior experience needed! Successful applicants will undergo a significant amount of training and acquire valuable clinical skills in EMS or practical skills in fire suppression, technical rescue, management, and incident command. All training, certifications, uniform, medical screening, and equipment are provided by Montgomery County at no cost to active members. Active members also receive benefits from meal reimbursement program, our live-in program for housing, and state tax deductions. Active members must be able to commit to one 12-hour shift per week. Becoming a volunteer EMT, Firefighter, or Paramedic serves as clinical experience for pre-med students applying for medical school or as on-the-job experience for those seeking a career in emergency management or public service.
