Haji Public School
www.hajipublicschool.orgHaji Public School, Breswana, is a not-for-profit, K-10 private school catering to a first generation of children from remote villages in the mountains of Doda District in Jammu and Kashmir. It was established in the year 2009 by the Haji family in its ancestral village, Breswana, in order to provide education to the inaccessible. The school serves remote village communities living in high-altitude mountain hamlets with no road connectivity. The locals are primarily subsistence farmers and the school is looking at a first generation of English language learners currently. Haji Public School provides low cost, high quality all round learning and has created a fun, safe space for a new generation of children to get their basic education. The school aims to level any differences between city and rural children in terms of opportunities for learning and development. The school provides excellent academic learning but also has a very strong bent towards reading, sports, games, music, arts, dance, drama and whatever other extra curricular activities it can provide to the students in the regular running of the school. All students should be given an opportunity to develop whatever facet of their personality can shine the most. A healthy mix of local teachers as well as a running roster of teaching volunteers from India and other countries has helped shape the students of the school into confident, curious and very aware young boys and girls, with excellent exposure to the world outside, different cultures, beliefs, technologies, stories and lots of pop culture. The school prides itself on its focus on strong values in its daily functioning: goodness, kindness, openness, integrity, equity and justice. Discussions on current affairs and world news are part of the daily routine. The school's management and staff are proponents of equality in all spheres, and the children take naturally to this way of thinking.
