The 5th cohort of students began in September 2018 Whilst there are over 1700 Sino-Foreign Joint programmes approved by the Chinese MOE, this Joint Degree Programme is the only undergraduate Law programme in China. It is the only Law programme in China where students learn comparative international law with significant input from a UK university. The Joint Programme reflects Coventry’s reputation as being one of the best UK universities for internationalisation and the student experience. Accordingly, the resourcing and structure of the Joint Programme was carefully crafted to ensure student success. Three Coventry University academic staff are based permanently at SWUPL delivering an intensive diet of Legal English and English for Academic Purposes to enable all students to be at the appropriate level to learn not only a complex subject in their second language but also to cope with the cultural and pedagogic differences between Chinese and UK education. Further distinctive features include an internationalised legal curriculum where 33% of the total curriculum are taught and assessed by Coventry Law School academic staff. These modules are delivered by Flying Faculty adopting a blended delivery pedagogy. For students choosing to study in the UK in their final year, all students are guaranteed a one semester internship in a UK Law firm. Most pleasing were the excellent results of the 2014 cohort where 15% of students received 1st class honours and 64% upper second-class honours.
