Yoga Behind Bars (YBB) is the only nonprofit in Washington state dedicated to bringing trauma-informed yoga and meditation to prisons, jails, and detention centers. Our programs promote rehabilitation, help to build safer communities, and contribute to the reform of the corrections system. The breadth and depth of our programs, including the first yoga teacher training program for inmates, along with our partnerships with like-minded organizations and the Department of Corrections is revolutionizing Washington State prison culture. Our model of compassionate rehabilitative programming is intended to shift the culture in prison from punishment to healing, transformation, and reintegration to, ultimately, disrupt the cycle of suffering caused by repeated incarceration.
