VRETA Virtual Reality Emergency Training Application VRETA is a mobile simulator, based on virtual reality (VR) including learning tools. With VRETA, you can simulate emergencies onboard the ship in areas that are normally used by passengers or situations not possible to demonstrate during normal operation of the ship. VRETA has an assessment tool for evaluating the competence of the crew. Virtual reality (VR) is a computer technology that uses Virtual reality headsets to generate realistic images, sounds and other sensations that simulate a user's physical presence in a virtual or imaginary environment. A person using virtual reality equipment is able to "look around" the artificial world. VR headsets are head-mounted goggles with a screen in front of the eyes. The simulation scenarios can be standardized VRETA scenarios or they can be ship specified. VRETA, Virtual Reality Emergency Training Application is developed to meet the requirements set out in the Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW) and Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regarding onboard training for passenger ships.
