George Reservoir and it shares its banks with Alabama and Georgia. It was formed in 1963 as the result of the construction of the Walter F. George Lock and Dam, located near Ft. Gaines, Georgia. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the dam to provide flood control, produce hydroelectric power, create a navigable shipping channel and offer recreational activities.
