The SSU Foundation annually organises an extra-curricular programme for excellent innovation students in Utrecht. The goal of the programme is to connect theoretical knowledge to practical, real life situations. While students gain valuable practical experience, partners benefit from fresh new insights on issues revolving around innovation. One part of the programme offers participants a case study to work on, which addresses a problem or question a partnering company would want a new perspective on. The SSU Foundation has been collaborating with innovative Dutch companies and institutions for 20 years. These companies are in the field of life sciences, transport, energy, sustainability and general innovation. Previous partners include Alliander, Vifor Pharma, Climate-KIC, Philips and Rijkswaterstaat. The second part of the programme consists of a study tour abroad. The participants experience innovation in a different cultural context by visiting various companies and institutions on location. Over the past few years, companies specialised in sustainable energy, mobility, infrastructure, biotechnology, ICT and many other fields have contributed to the study tours. Some of the previous destinations have been Shanghai (2018), Cape Town (2017), Kyoto & Osaka (2016), and San Francisco (2015).
