Sussex Area Community Foundation Inc. (SACFI) is a locally run public foundation that builds and manages endowment funds to support charitable activities in the area. A Community Foundation is a philanthropic organization focused on building permanent endowments in order to tackle long-term community challenges as well as meeting immediate needs. SACFI is a member of the Community Foundations of Canada along with 190 other locally run community foundations in Canada. Started in 2004, SACFI has provided grants and scholarships to the Sussex Area since 2005. Fourteen volunteer board members from our communities and diverse backgrounds oversee the management of SACFI . Community Foundations have three main roles: 1. Endowment Building - pool charitable gifts of many donors to create permanent, income-earning endowment funds - a nest egg that will always benefit the community. 2. Grantmaking - Use the income earned by invested funds to give grants to a wide range of community groups and provide scholarships to high school students in need of financial assistance. The original investment is left to grow over time. 3. Community Convening and Leadership - Work with the entire community, bringing people together from all sectors to identify and address local issues.
