My name is Alison Tarrant and I am the founder and CEO of the educational organisation “Alison Tarrant Education.” My team and I are focused on teaching the vital and fundamental basics of English and Mathematics the right way. In today’s world, students have electronic technology at their fingertips and are afforded the opportunity to research, study and learn anything they choose. These electronic resources were not available 50 years ago, but the student’s level of ability in basic English and Mathematics in that era was more advanced. So, honestly, what is the problem? In my 20 years of educating children and adults (tutoring one-on-one and teaching in small groups), personally training all my staff in my tutoring centres and communicating with many educators - I have come to one conclusion: In primary school, children are not learning “the basics” as they should. Fundamental English and Mathematics skills are just not known. Subsequently, high school students are then trying to learn basic punctuation, grammar, essay writing, place value, arithmetic and fractions (just to name a few) as late as Year 10. The consequence of this is “functionally illiterate” adults in the workplace. For example, they do not have the ability to write simple letters or emails with correct punctuation and spelling or do simple maths calculations using arithmetic, fractions, decimals and percentages. These problems are MASSIVE and are grossly overlooked. They result in unemployment, incompetence and inefficiency in the workplace. With my vast knowledge and years of application, I have an in-depth understanding on how to teach ANYONE the essential and vital basics of English and Mathematics.
