National Cued Speech Association (Non-Profit)

www.cuedspeech.org

The National Cued Speech Association was formed in 1982 to serve the needs of parents and special educators working with children who are deaf and hard of hearing. The NCSA is primarily an advocacy organization, and focuses on outreach, family and educator support, as well as community-based education. Here are some examples of the services we offer: 1. Free Parent Kits for families who are curious about cueing. 2. Leadership, education, advocacy, and resources training (CLEAR) for organizations and individuals who want to understand cueing. 3. Instructor certification for teaching Cued American English classes. 4. A Cue Store, where you can purchase cueing materials, Children’s Kits for seasonal cueing activities, online cue courses, and more! Cueing is a visual mode of communication in which mouth movements of speech combine with “cues” to make all the sounds (phonemes) of traditionally spoken languages look different. Cueing allows children and adults who are deaf, hard of hearing or who have language / communication disorders to access the basic, fundamental properties of spoken languages through vision. The Deaf Children’s Literacy Project (DCLP) is a non-profit charity founded by the National Cued Speech Association (NCSA) in the late 1990s. The DCLP was conceived through past NCSA efforts in securing Congressional support through grants in its campaign in making literacy much more accessible for deaf and hard of hearing infants and children alike. To make a charitable donation (tax deductable) to the Deaf Children's Literacy Group, you can do so by going to: https://cuedspeech.org/get-engaged/ways-to-give/donate-now/
