Tandsundhed Uden Grænser / Dental Health Without Borders
www.tug-dk.orgDental Health Without Borders (TUG) is a Danish development organisation working to improve life possibilities for children in some of the poorest countries of the world. Through better dental health the children has less pain, they thrive better and they have less sick days from school. TUG provides longsighted sustainable development projects in areas with a pronounced need for, but poor access to, treatment and preventive dental care. The focus is on preventative care and health enhancement through public awareness, capacity building and education, targeted especially for school children. TUG also offers assistance in acute situations. We aim to put dental heath on the agenda by cooperating with local organisations and public authorities. Each year TUG sends out dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and students as volunteers to our projects worldwide in order to provide emergency treatment and education to children and their parents from the most impoverished areas. TUG was established in 2002 by Danish dental students who travelled to developing countries in order to help the poorest of the population on a voluntary basis. Today TUG is an approved non-profit organisation with more than a thousand members, mainly from within the dental profession, and it is now a formalised organisation with a permanent administrative office in Copenhagen.
