The aim of the Auroville Town Development Council (ATDC) (originally named L’avenir d’Auroville) is to manifest Mother’s dream of an ideal place - Auroville. Mother presented her idea of Auroville in the form of the Galaxy Plan, which placed the Peace zone in the centre surrounded by the Residential, International, Industrial, Cultural, and Green zones. In 1968, Mother set up L’avenir d’Auroville to oversee the development of Auroville. The ATDC’s mandate comprises planning, developing and building out the Township; implementing and monitoring development programmes and projects; actively engaging in research and innovation; training and building internal capacities, particularly among the youth and residents of the bioregion; fostering partnerships and mobilising resources to plan and develop the Township. In working towards holistically developing the township, we are tasked with Town Planning, Physical and Social Infrastructure, Urban Design, Applied Research, Green Zones, Implementation & Monitoring, Communication & Outreach, Economic Development, and Resource Mobilisation. The ATDC is managed by the residents of the Auroville, with administrative and technical assistance from others.
